The Changthang Wildlife Sanctuary is located at an altitude of about 4,000-9,000 feet in the Ladakhi Changthang Plateau in the Leh district. It is surrounded by two mountain lakes Pangong Tso Lake and Tso Moriri. The snow leopard is the major attraction of this wildlife sanctuary. Apart from this rare animals such as Tibetan wolf, Tibetan argali, Wild Yark, Tibetan gazelle and the Tibetan antelopes are also been seen. 44 different species of water birds are also seen.
The best time to visit Changthang Wildlife Sanctuary is between May to December as the weather remains quite pleasant that time. Changthang Wildlife Sanctuary is 75 Km away from Leh, it takes 2 hrs to reach the spot by car. Many taxi services are also available from Leh to reach the spot.
