Tsokar Lake is another salt-water lake located in the Rupshu Plateau of the Himalayan region. Tsokar is just 90km away from Tsomoriri Lake. The lake is at an altitude of 14,860 ft (4,530 m). Considering the higher altitude and also the high salt content in water the lake support considerable amount of flora and fauna but support breeding of grebes and brown-headed gulls, strip geese, rust geese and terns. In the vicinity of the lake black-necked cranes and Tibetan grouse are relatively common. Hence good for bird watching. Tibetan wolves, Yak, wild horses and foxes are also seen at these places.
To reach Tsokar Lake one can start from Leh (153 km) and other from Pangong Lake (215 km). However, the journey from Pangong Lake is very nice as it offer a lot more beauty of the landscape than from Leh.
You can start the journey from Leh in the morning and head towards Upshi in the Manali Leh highway. The journey would be for about 5-6 hours in which you would cover about 150 km. the lake is less visited and hence have limited options for stay. One can plan and visit the place in a day if left early, or can find suitable accommodations at the lake side.

The best time to visit Tsokar Lake is between May to September as there is less snow in the area and the lake offers a blue beauty on sunny days when sky is clear.
